What's in a Name?

Hello - I'm new to the tribe.

My name is spelled with an E - it may be silent but it's significant - my name isn't complete without it and it bugs me that people leave it off.

As for "Annie", my mom put the kabash on that with my pediatrician when I was an infant - "her name is Anne, not Annie" - only one person calls me Annie and it's because he knows it drives me NUTS!

Anne is classic and graceful - I'm often told it's a beautiful name (and it is!!)

Just hate it when pple leave off the e in my name. Though, it's not originally spelled with an e, I've been spelling it like that since grade school. I've never seen a novena card or anything of St. Anne without an e, and that's who I'm named after.

Single Syllable

Okay, this might be unique to me, but have any of you noticed an odd occurance when people say your name?

It started in high school, I noticed that my teachers would go down the list: "Jennifer, Heather, Brian, Mariah, Peter, Molly, etc." But when they got to my name, they said both my first and last name: "Anne Scott."

In college, the same thing happened to me, I wasn't just Anne, I was "Anne Scott." There were no other Annes in my schools, no reason to emphasis my last name.

My theory is that with a single syllable name, folks prefer to use the last name too.

What do y'all think?
