This is a problem that deserves its own thread. What do y'all think?
How do you feel about Annie?

Re: The Annie Question
Tue, March 2, 2004 - 3:31 PMIt drives me crazy! People always read my name with an invisibe I in it. It's like people who put a T in else, as in "can I get you anything eltse?" It is so annoying! Maybe I am just uptight? hee hee ;) -

Re: The Annie Question
Tue, March 2, 2004 - 7:13 PMYa, I HATE that invisible I. ergh. lol!
Whenever I spell my name out and they look at me all bright eyed and bushy tailed, you know the look-o, you're AnnIE. Sometimes, Lord have mercy on my soul, I want to respond: what grade did you graduate from? or something relating to their obvious misuse of the english language.(anyone knows that a plain e is usually silent at the end of a word, right? no one says airplanie, you know?) It's so mean, I don't dare, but I think stuff like that sometimes because it just drives me crazy.
As you probably notice, I prefer being called my given name. :) Though, there are certain folks I let get away with Annie. Anna, never. I don't like that, either. I have reasons, not just because I plain don't like it, but how these names were used when I was growing up. -

Re: The Annie Question
Tue, March 2, 2004 - 7:58 PMI don't know why people add the I. You don't catch people calling Mikes, "Mikey."
Also, it goes along with my pet peeve of people assuming they can call you by a nickname. I had a coworker who automatically went for the nickname, Barbara was "Barb," Robert was "Bob," etc.
So, so wrong!

Re: The Annie Question
Tue, July 5, 2005 - 12:58 PMOf course, what all this points out, is the importance of nipping this kind of thing in the bud.
Saying "Oh, it's actually Anne" is no biggie after the first 1-2 "Annies", but after a few days/weeks, suddenly it becomes an icky social quandry.
