Just hate it when pple leave off the e in my name. Though, it's not originally spelled with an e, I've been spelling it like that since grade school. I've never seen a novena card or anything of St. Anne without an e, and that's who I'm named after.
What about you, Ann(e)?

Re: Hi, Ann(e)
Tue, February 10, 2004 - 8:22 AMMe, I was always made fun of in middle school with the first 'a' syllable sounding like: "oooh, it AAAAAAAaaaaiiiiiiiuuuuuuuhhhhn."
My mother says it's a classic name, and now that I'm 32, I find I like it better than some of the new names folks are giving their girls. I know an Ainsley out there. I prefer "Anne." -

Re: Hi, Ann(e)
Tue, February 10, 2004 - 9:32 AMHello, Anne and Ann.
I've never really given too much thought to my name, but that's just the point. I mean, just say it: Anne. It's not fancy, it's not super memorable, but, it is a classic name, and i guess you can't go wrong with a classic..... and I like to remind people that with an 'e' it's more distinguished, just as they say in 'Anne of Green Gables'...which is another thing....why is it that we are always reminded of that book? 'Oh, with an 'e' like Anne of Green Gables'?....frankly, i've never even read the darn books, but I've been reminded of their existance so often, that I might as well have!!
I have been pleasantly surprised with the addition of e's at the end of my name by strangers lately--are people getting with the (my) program? Seems like now, more than ever, when I give my name to a receptionist, or a host or hostess, they immediately write the 'e' down at the end..I usually have to pipe up!! I love it....no more 'oh, and there's an 'e' at the end there' lately! Is it more common now to have the e?
One remark that I had not gotten before, a few years ago was just plain wrong. A male friend (who's slightly pompous and arrogant) said 'I can't remember, do you have an 'e' at the end of your name?', and when I said yes he replies 'Oh yes, well I should have known, you are (my parents) in the ABOVE $50,000 a year mark...see, there is a defining line for Anne's with an 'e' and without'. Or some such nonsense. Anyone else ever get an out of the ordinary comment like that?
Take care Ann(e)'s of Tribe! -

Re: Hi, Ann(e)
Tue, February 10, 2004 - 12:54 PMhiya! wow so excited to be invited to join this tribe! i spell my name with an e....which is VERY frustrating sometimes when people assume i don't. i know when my parents told their friends what they had named me, my mom's boss said "you are going to have to FIGHT for that "e" your whole life!" and jeez oh man was he right! usually when i tell people my name to write down, i usually end up saying "hi my name's anne with an e" right away...bah! but i do like some things about it...like that it's short (easy when i was learning to spell!) and that it looks quite classic--not like the thousands of jenny's and katie's that are around now. so girls be proud of your name! however you spell it! =)
anne (with an e) =)

Re: Hi, Ann(e)
Tue, February 10, 2004 - 5:43 PMhaha, I started using Anne to ppl would ~stop~ misspelling my name (Suzanne).
I really think Anne fits me much better than any other nickname I've used, though... Simple, fun, yet elegant... -

Wed, February 25, 2004 - 1:44 PMHi Ann(e)s!
A pleasure to join this tribe!
I have always been called Annie (which I despise!) because of the E. It doesn't look finished to me without it though.
The worst was when Mom gave me a perm a week before the movie Annie came out! Ugh!
And no, I am not full of grace in the least. Quite clumsy in fact!
Nice to meet you all! -

Re: Hi, Ann(e)
Wed, February 25, 2004 - 2:08 PMI too am a recovering Annie. The tricky part about being an Anne, is that nicknames are hard to come by. You always have to add something . . . Annie, Annabanana, etc.
For a brief period my friends were calling me Annabelle. This lead to everyone thinking Anne was my nickname and my real name was Annabelle. Very vexing! -

Re: Hi, Ann(e)
Wed, February 25, 2004 - 3:03 PMBut you can have so much fun with the name Anne! Such as my current nickname. I also use Miss Anne Thrope for my "punk rock" name, Anne Droid for my space girl name. It lends itself so well to stuff like that! hooray!
I never went as Annie. Starting in kindergarten my Mother was very vocal to my teachers that she did not name me Annie. That made me very uptight about being called that. Then the whole movie thing happened..... grrrr. -

Wed, February 25, 2004 - 3:10 PMOoooh, Miss Anne Thorpe. I like that! -

Re: Hi, Ann(e)
Wed, February 25, 2004 - 8:32 PMya, I hate that Annie thing too! Out of some folks, I don't mind it so much, but from others sometimes it sounds so condescending, like they're talking down to me or something.

Wed, February 25, 2004 - 11:42 PMI can accept Anna sometimes. It's not so bad. -

Re: Hi, Ann(e)
Thu, February 26, 2004 - 9:45 AMYeah, Anna works for me. My friend's spanish-speaking mom told me that Anne is just too short and Anna sounds much better.
She was making me a breakfast burrito so I just said "Yes ma'am!" -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Mon, March 1, 2004 - 12:20 PM"Yeah, Anna works for me. "
Well, Anna is my given name, but I ask my friends to call me Anne, which I like to spell with an E. But, it confuses people because all official documents still say Anna. There are people in the world who can say Anna so beautifully that I let them call me that. And, when people ask, what do you want to be called, I tell them it doesn't matter - you decide. There are a few out there who call me Annie because they are the fun loving type & therefore it's allowed. So how bout Annie? Hate it, yes or no?
