Okay, this might be unique to me, but have any of you noticed an odd occurance when people say your name?
It started in high school, I noticed that my teachers would go down the list: "Jennifer, Heather, Brian, Mariah, Peter, Molly, etc." But when they got to my name, they said both my first and last name: "Anne Scott."
In college, the same thing happened to me, I wasn't just Anne, I was "Anne Scott." There were no other Annes in my schools, no reason to emphasis my last name.
My theory is that with a single syllable name, folks prefer to use the last name too.
What do y'all think?

Re: Single Syllable
Tue, February 10, 2004 - 10:42 PMYou know, I never really noticed that as an issue with me--perhaps because my Maiden name was longer--two syllable? Maybe the one syllable first and last name work beter than a One syllable first name and two syllable last name???? Or myabe it's just that 'Anne Scott' has a nice ring to it? -

Re: Single Syllable
Wed, February 11, 2004 - 12:30 PMpeople like to use my middle name in conjuction with Anne. As a result, I don't tell them what it is, and if I do, ask very politely to call me Anne, please. Using my middle name reminds me of when I was in trouble with my parents! :) -

Re: Single Syllable
Wed, February 11, 2004 - 3:35 PMThat's funny--the very first time that I made out with a boy--he kept asking 'what's your middle name?' very passionately--kind of weird, but now that I read your post, I am starting to wonder if it was because my name wasn't 'good enough' or 'romantic enough' to say while in the thrall of passion!--whatever!
It was weird anyways. -

Thu, February 12, 2004 - 8:11 AMOh God! My middle name is sooooo not romantic. If someone said it in the midst of a passionate moment, I'd die laughing. -

Wed, February 25, 2004 - 1:52 PMMy first and last name said together sounds like "ankle". Some people always use my full name, and some don't.
